In November 2017 the Supreme Court of India barred the directors from selling their assets.

Jaiprakash Gaur is the founder and was chairman of Jaiprakash Associates Limited. After acquiring a Diploma in Civil Engineering in 1950 from the now called Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, he had a stint with the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Later he became an entrepreneur, started as a civil contractor in 1958. Now the Jaypee group is the third largest cement producer in the country. The group's cement facilities are located today all over India in 10 states, with 18 plants having an aggregate cement production capacity of 24 million tonnes and same is poised to become 36 million Tonnes before October 2011.[4]

Later this institute was declared first private state university of Madhya Pradesh as Jaypee University of Engineering & Technology.   • 2014 -Himalayan Expressway-Zirakpur - Kalka six-lane highway. Project completed and opened to general public.
  • 2014 - Jaypee University, Anoopshahr set up at bank of Ganga river in Anoopshahr, District Bulandshahr.
  • 2016 - Jaypee Greens Golf Course, Greater Noida, National Capital Region received the 'Best Tourism Friendly Golf Course 2015-16' recognition for the third time.[5]

The Jaypee Group successfully completed projects in 18 states of India and Bhutan. Jaypee is the engineering and construction company for India's Yamuna Expressway, which opened 9 August 2012.

JIL, the group flagship, has an engineering and construction wing which mostly supports Jaypee projects. It also has the largest land bank in India's National Capital Region, i.e., New Delhi. Jaypee has four thermal power plants totalling 5,120 MW under construction, and these are slated to go on stream by December 2014.

Hydropower projects[edit]

  • Sardar Sarovar Dam: a gravity dam on the narmada near Navagam, Gujarat; it is India's largest concrete dam
  • Tehri Dam: a multipurpose rock-and-earth-fill embankment dam on the Bhagirathi River near Tehri in Uttarakhand; it is Asia's highest Rockfill dam
  • Nathpa Jhakri Dam: The Largest underground powerhouse in country on the Sutlej River in Himachal Pradesh
  • Indirasagar Dam: the second-largest surface powerhouse in India on the Narmada River at Narmadanagar in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh
  • Karcham Wangtoo Hydroelectric Plant - is a 1000MW run-of-the-river hydroelectric power station on the Sutlej River in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, India
  • In addition, with 3200 MW projects (2700 MW Lower Siang & 500 MW Hirong ) coming up in Arunachal Pradesh and 720 MW (270 MW Umngot and 450 MW Kynshi Stage –II) in Meghalaya, the Group will have total Hydropower generation capacity of over 5600 MW by 2020.

In September 2015, JSW Energy acquired two hydropower Projects of Jaiprakash Associates in a deal worth 9,700 crore.[6]

In August 2014, Shree Cements announced that it is set to acquire Jaiprakash Associates' 1.5 million tonne grinding unit at Panipat for 360 crore.[7] The Jaypee group has been selling most of its cement assets to reduce its debt.

On 29 February 2016 it was reported that Jaypee group's cement assets will be acquired by Ultra tech amounting to 16,500 crore (US$2.3 billion) to laid off the debt, making it the largest deal in Indian cement sector.[8][9]

Due to debt, Jaiprakash Associates has not paid back its fixed deposit holders on time. Amount of Rs. 1079.31 crores plus interest is still pending payment.[10]The National Company Law Tribunal has extended the deadline to 31 March 2017 to settle the same.[11][12]
